Birds of a Feather and Glasgow Forever
Nigel Johnson’s First Solo Exhibition Brings Attention to Birds and Glasgow's Beauty
Glasgow, Scotland - The city's vibrant art scene is set to showcase the talents of a highly skilled artist, making his debut in the form of a solo exhibition. The show, which will feature a range of paintings and prints of birds from both Glasgow and other parts of the world, as well as places and buildings in the city itself, is set to open in a few weeks at Nicolls Gallery at 656 Dumbarton Road.
The artist, Nigel Johnson came to Glasgow over three decades ago to pursue a PhD in Science and Engineering at the University of Strathclyde. After a successful academic career years at the University of Glasgow, he decided to retire early to focus on his passion for art, and has since become a respected artist in Glasgow's burgeoning arts scene.
The exhibition, which he has been preparing for over a year, highlights his fascination with the beauty of birds, and their importance in the ecosystem. Through his art, he hopes to encourage people to appreciate the natural world and understand the need to preserve it.
"I have always found the avian world fascinating," said Nigel. "Birds are such beautiful creatures, and I feel that they are often overlooked in our busy lives. Through my art, I hope to remind people of their importance and beauty, and also to celebrate the many hidden gems in and around Glasgow."
The exhibition will showcase paintings and prints of exotic birds from around the globe as well as native species known to Glasgow's region. It will also feature a series of paintings of the buildings and landmarks throughout the city, with each work capturing the unique essence of Glasgow's architecture and scenes.
To prepare for this exhibition, the artist underwent an extensive DIY program from art courses over the city, and honed his craft over many years, building a unique style that is both powerful and moving. His pieces are as diverse as his experiences, and he has drawn inspiration from his travels around the world. "This exhibition is a culmination of my passion for nature and my love for Glasgow”.
The exhibition will be open to the public from 13 – 14th May at Nicolls Gallery G11 6RA and will provide an opportunity to meet the artist throughout the exhibition. See the walk though. https://www.instagram.com/reel/CsMJed7gFkw/?igshid=NzJjY2FjNWJiZg==
